๐ Python Programming
Industry-standard Python from first principles
Python is the language of AI, data science and backend engineering. Your teen goes from first variable to real-world APIs, object-oriented code and a GitHub portfolio of working applications, all with a specialist tutor guiding every step.

Real Projects
What Your Teen Will Build
These aren't exercises, they're real applications. Every project lives on your teen's GitHub and demonstrates a skill that matters in the real world.
Live API App
Connects to a real weather, news or sports API and displays formatted live data in the terminal or a simple web UI
Web Scraper
Scrapes a real website, parses the data and exports it to a clean CSV file, a tool with genuine real-world uses
Data Analysis Tool
Loads a dataset, calculates statistics, finds patterns and plots charts using pandas and matplotlib
OOP Text RPG
A structured object-oriented game with character classes, inventory, combat and multiple story paths
Course Modules
What They'll Learn
Six modules that build a complete Python foundation, from the very first variable to real-world libraries and external APIs.
Python Foundations
Variables, data types (str, int, float, bool), operators, input/output, reading error messages
Control Flow
if/elif/else, for/while loops, range(), break/continue, nested logic
Functions & Scope
Defining and calling functions, parameters, return values, local vs global scope, recursion intro
Data Structures
Lists, tuples, dictionaries, sets; indexing, slicing, iteration, comprehensions
Object-Oriented Programming
Classes, objects, constructors (__init__), methods, inheritance, encapsulation
Libraries & APIs
pip, importing modules (requests, json, pandas, matplotlib), working with external data sources
Is This Course Right?
Who It's For
Perfect for
- Teens aged 11โ17 ready for a real programming language
- Students who've done block coding (Scratch, Roblox) and want the next level
- Teens interested in AI, data science, web development or automation
- Students with zero coding experience who want to start at the right level
Not the right fit
- Students expecting to build mobile apps (Python isn't primarily used for mobile, recommend App Development)
- Students who've already completed an intermediate Python course (we offer advanced Python, ask us)
How It Works
How Sessions Work
60โ90 Minute Sessions
One live session per week. Teens work independently throughout, no parent supervision needed.
Screen-Share & Live Coding
Your teen's tutor codes alongside them, debugs in real time and explains the reasoning, not just the answer.
Portfolio-First Projects
Every module ends with a real project. By course end, your teen has a GitHub portfolio with working Python apps.
One-to-One Expert Tuition
A Python specialist who tracks exactly where your teen is and adapts every session to close the right gaps.
Student & Parent Stories
What Students & Parents Say
โShe has a GitHub profile now. At 14. With actual projects that run. Python changed what she thinks she's capable of.โ
Bimpe K.
mother ยท Lagos
โI started Python with zero experience. Three months later I'd built a weather app that my whole family uses. The OOP module was a turning point.โ
David O.
Student, age 16 ยท Birmingham
โHis school started teaching Python in Year 9. He'd already done OOP and APIs with his Homtutor tutor. He spent most of those lessons helping classmates.โ

Frequently Asked Questions
Does my teen need any prior coding experience?
No, we start from absolute zero. Variables, loops and functions are all explained from scratch (pun intended). That said, teens who've done Scratch or block coding pick it up noticeably faster in the first 2โ3 sessions.
Is Python the best first language for a teenager?
For most teenagers, yes. It's the most readable language in the world, produces satisfying results very quickly and is directly useful in AI, data science and web development. The only exception is teens who specifically want to build iOS apps (Swift) or Android apps (Kotlin) as their primary goal.
What's the difference between the Kids Python course and this one?
The Kids course (ages 9โ12) uses simpler projects and a gentler pace. The Teen course covers the same foundations but moves faster, goes deeper (OOP, APIs, external libraries) and uses more real-world, portfolio-worthy projects.
Can Python get my teen a job or freelance work?
Yes, genuinely. Python is the #1 most in-demand programming language for jobs. Students who complete this course and build on it have gone on to freelance data work, internships and university research projects. We actively help students build a portfolio for exactly this reason.
How long does the full curriculum take?
The 6 modules typically take 4โ6 months with one weekly session plus regular practice. Students who practise 3โ4 hours between sessions can complete it in 3โ4 months. There's no fixed end date, we move at the pace that sticks.
